A lifetime in the arts

As a violinist and member of the New York Philharmonic for more than 40 years, I shared the stage with some of the world's greatest artists, from Horowitz to Zimerman, Milstein to Perlman, Price to Domingo, and played under the batons of Bernstein, Maazel, Mehta and so many other brilliant talents.

More than once, Bernstein said that musicians in the orchestra collectively possess real knowledge of music, and that he was always learning from them. He also told me that the most important things in life are human relationships.

In this spirit, I wish to share stories from 60 years of performing the violin, totalling more than 5,000 concerts in 56 countries. It would be a great joy if my experiences could inform and enrich the next generation of performers, students and music lovers.
